This is an update regarding the suspension of the Chadar Trek in 2026 , as per the notice received from the Administration of Union Territory of Ladakh, Ladakh Autonomous Hill Development Council (LAHDC) – Leh, and the Office of the District Disaster Management Authority, Leh.
As per the report submitted by the recce team for the Chadar Trek, the Zanskar River remains unfrozen. Due to the unfrozen condition of the river, the trekking route is unsafe and hazardous for trekkers. Hence, the Chadar Trek 2026 remains temporarily suspended with immediate effect, until further review scheduled on 20th January 2026.
According to the authorities, the decision to suspend the Chadar Trek has been taken in the interest of public safety, as the current condition of the Zanskar River poses a serious risk to human life. During the suspension period, no trekking or allied adventure activities shall be permitted on the said route.
Chadar has been one of the most beautiful adventures on Earth, and we understand that it is a once-in-a-lifetime experience for many. We sincerely appreciate the support and cooperation of all trekkers, as safety always comes before adventure.
In line with the official directive, Trekup India is also suspending all batches of the Chadar Trek for 2026. All booked trekkers will receive an email from their respective Trek Coordinators or Mountain Experts regarding further plans and execution.

The Trekup India team has been in continuous touch with J&K Tourism Department, Local Administration and with local operating union in Kashmir, below are latest developments or your understanding and knowledge.
In discussion with Administration, so, far there are only some selected few tourist spots that are open for tourism activities, however there is still restriction on high altitude Adventure activities which also includes Trekking to Kashmir Great lakes, Tarsar Marsar etc. To be honest and provide more clarity there is no clarity on operation of this treks in 2026, the only raise of hope is that slowly opening tourist spots in Kashmir for Tourism Activities and hopefully there is an expectation that in 2026 it may operate, subject to clearance from Central and State Government.
In View of promoting Tourism to Valley for Adventure sports, Adventure Tour Operator Association of India (ATOAI) recently organised its 17th Annual Convention in Srinagar Kashmir and we are sure and hopeful that after ATOAI Convention along with hundred of operators from all round the country, this will give a boost to tourism ad government will reconsider opening of high altitude treks in the region.
Despite the valley remained closed for tourism, still Central and State Government successfully and safely operated Amarnath Yatra, this operation again raised a hope of safe conduct of tourism activities in the valley, to inform all trekkers that so far all plans of tourism in designated spots have been safely organized.
Considering all above key factors and safe conduct of all tourism activities in Jammu and Kashmir, we and all other operators of High altitude Treks in Kashmir are hopeful that 2026 may remains open for Adventure lover.

Dear Trekkers and Adventure Enthusiasts,Namaste!
We wish to inform all our trekkers, adventure partners, and travel associates that, as per the latest official order issued by Ms. Kirti Chandel (HPAS), Sub-Divisional Magistrate, Dodra Kawar, the Rupin Pass Trek route has been temporarily closed for all trekking and tourism activities with immediate effect.
The decision has been taken under Section 34 of the Disaster Management Act, 2005, following continuous rainfall and snowfall in the region that has led to adverse weather conditions, poor trail stability, and high avalanche risk.
Issued by: Office of the Sub-Divisional Officer (Civil), Dodra Kawar, District Shimla, Himachal Pradesh
– The Rupin Pass Track will remain closed for all trekking, tourism, and movement of persons until further notice.– All tour operators, travel agencies, and forest/police authorities are instructed to ensure strict compliance with the closure order.– Any individual or organization found violating the order will be liable for action under the Disaster Management Act and other applicable laws.– The restriction shall remain in force until weather conditions improve and a safety review permits reopening of the route.
Due to persistent rain and early-season snowfall, the terrain around Rupin Pass has become unstable. The risk of landslides and avalanches has increased significantly, making the trail unsafe for trekkers, tourists, and local inhabitants.
– At Trekup India, safety is our foremost priority. We are in continuous touch with the local administration, forest department, and ground team, and are closely monitoring the evolving weather situation.– All scheduled Rupin Pass departures are temporarily on hold until further notice from the Sub-Divisional Magistrate’s office.– We strongly advise trekkers not to plan or attempt travel toward Rupin Pass during this period.– Trekkers may choose to reschedule or opt for alternative treks in other safe regions — our coordination team is available to assist with new plans or transfers.

On 5th October 2025, this group of trekkers is currently based in Joshimath, from where they are exploring nearby attractions such as Niti Valley and Badrinath at no additional cost. The ongoing intense rainfall has resulted in floods and water accumulation affecting Kathmandu and its neighboring regions. Travelers intending to explore Nepal are advised to keep themselves informed about the current weather conditions and travel alerts before embarking on their journey.
Embarking on a Himalayan trek demands bravery, determination, and a deep appreciation for the environment. The recent snowfall has transformed the trail into a captivating winter wonderland. Nevertheless, the weather serves as a poignant reminder of the mountains’ inherent unpredictability and power.

04 February 2026
The Kullu Forest Division is officially suspending any activities related to trekking, tent pitching, and adventure in the Hampta Pass region until September 30, 2025. This is in response to several extremely heavy rains and flash floods that resulted in significant damage to the natural terrain as well as infrastructure throughout Himachal Pradesh.
In a decision dated September 12, 2025, the Forest Department stated that several trails under its control are now unsafe due to insecure trails, inadequate connectivity, and sudden extreme weather changes. To ensure the safety of travelers, trekkers, and residents, the trekking permits were revoked until further notice. In addition, strict warnings were given to tour operators, trekking companies, local panchayats, and even individuals, asking the latter to adhere to the suspension. Infractions could result in sanctions, which could include legal action as well as FIR registration. A limited exemption will be granted to survey teams, research teams, groups, and local companies that the district administration authorizes.
At Trekup India, our primary focus is on safety and compliance. As per the Forest Department’s instructions, we have halted the entire Hampta Pass and Bhrigu Lake batches until September 30, 2025. Our Trek Coordinators are in touch with each trekker booked for the Hampta Pass for updates and changes.
We are aware that some companies continue to operate treks in the Hampta region without official permission. As per the Forest Department, such operations are illegal and invite strict penalties. Trekup India does not engage in such unethical practices. We believe in maintaining full transparency with our trekkers, partners, and trade community, while respecting the laws and regulations that protect both people and the environment.
The forecast in the regional area predicts continued precipitation for the upcoming week, which further reinforces the need for this emergency suspension.
We know the pain it can cause, and thank you for your understanding. You can imagine that Trekup India has also faced significant difficulties this year, primarily due to logistics, equipment, and staff shortages until July 2025. Natural hazards have impacted activities at Hampta Pass, making it an uneasy year for participants and the organizers.
To give our trekkers, we’re offering the following options:
Shift to Alternate Himalayan Treks, it is possible to change your reservation to any of the following treks available:
Har Ki Dun Trek (6N/7D)Kedarkantha Trek (4N/5D)Rupin Pass Trek (6N/7D)Bali Pass Trek (7N/8D)Dayara Bugyal Trek (3N/4D)Sandakphu Phalut Trek (6N/7D)Gaumukh & Tapovan Trek (7N/8D)
We recommend against delaying the date of your reservation for the Hampta Pass in the same year since the hike is expected to be shut for the remainder of the year. Based on previous experience and current weather trends, it is likely that we will see snow accumulations early in October, making it nearly impossible for travelers to travel through. So, Hampta Pass will open this year, around June 2026.An announcement of the ski slope’s closure for the remainder of the season will be posted separately on our site.
If trekkers are unable to change in a hurry, we offer trek vouchers for twelve months that can be used towards any trek in the future with Trekup India.
We are deeply sorry for the inconvenience, and we thank everyone who trekked with us for their willingness to cooperate and understanding. The process, although difficult, is vital to our safety and in accordance with the legal regulations.
A new update will be issued at the end of September 30, 2025, or earlier when new guidelines are released through the Forest Department. Forest Department.
We at Trekup India, security is our top priority. We’re looking forward to seeing you back on the trails once conditions improve and our mountains are ready for trekkers to return.
With Best Wishes ….

After days of disruption in Himachal Pradesh, the region is now steadily moving toward restoration, bringing back normalcy and hope. The recent disaster that impacted lives and infrastructure—especially in Manali, Kullu, and Mandi—had saddened the entire nation. Today, progress is visible, and travel to Manali for the Hampta Pass Trek has become smoother.
– Delhi–Chandigarh–Manali Highway: Nearly 80% of the route has been restored. Volvo and state transport buses are operating conveniently up to Mandi.– From Mandi, multiple shared taxis are readily available to reach Manali without hassle.– With continuous efforts by NHAI and BRO, full connectivity is expected to be restored by 14 September 2025.– Manali–Leh Highway via Atal Tunnel: Reopened today for light vehicles after 10 days, bringing much-needed relief to residents and tribal farmers of the Lahaul region in Lahaul and Spiti district.
To verify road conditions, Trekup India sent Trek Leader Mr. Bharath from Dehradun to Manali via Chandigarh in a Volvo bus. He reported smooth travel up to Mandi and a comfortable onward journey to Manali in a shared taxi, reaching on schedule.
Check out the video below, shared by our Trek Leader Bharat straight from Ground Zero at Manali Base Camp, covering Hampta Pass Trek, Chandrabhaga Glaciers Trek, Bhrigu Lake, Beas Kund Trek, Kanamo Peak, and Friendship Peak Expedition.
The monsoon season is in its declining phase, with a consistent reduction in rainfall. Weather reports indicate stable conditions, making the Hampta Pass Trek safe and feasible in the coming weeks.
Our Manali team recently completed an inspection of all Trekup India campsites and equipment. No damage has been reported—our equipment completely remains safe and ready. A visit to Chandratal Lake via the Atal Tunnel confirmed that the road is open and accessible.

Trekup India Dehradun on September 2, 2025. The Valley of Flowers, along with the holy temples Hemkund Sahib and Badrinath, will be closed till September 5, 2025 , following continuous rains that range from very heavy to extremely heavy throughout Uttarakhand.
As per the official notice published in the District Office, Chamoli, Uttarakhand (copy enclosed), the entry into those destinations has been halted to ensure travelers’ and pilgrims’ safety.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a Red Alert for Uttarakhand and has issued a warning about severe weather conditions, which could result in:
Authorities have advised everyone travellers, pilgrims, as well as tourists to delay their travel plans until the next notice. People already within the area should be in secure accommodation, and to avoid any unneeded movement until the weather is stable.
At Trekup India, our concern for the safety of our hikers as well as pilgrims is our top priority. As a response to the current circumstances:
Based on the most recent forecasts, the weather is predicted to stay unsafe for travel from the 10th-12th of September in 2025, with the continuation of yellow and orange alerts across the region.
We recommend all travellers to prioritise safety over scheduling and to plan trips only once official clearance has been given.
Stay Safe and Stay Alert!

04 February 2026
Trekup India, Dehradun | August 29, 2025 – Continuous heavy rainfall across Uttarakhand, particularly in the districts of Chamoli, Rudraprayag, and Uttarkashi, has disrupted connectivity and raised serious safety concerns for trekkers, pilgrims, and local communities. The state administration has issued Yellow and Orange alerts, cautioning of further rain, landslides, and flash floods in the coming days.
The Alaknanda River is currently flowing above the danger mark, with water levels rising alarmingly close to highways and nearby settlements. Several stretches of the Rishikesh–Badrinath highway are witnessing waterlogging, slope erosion, and traffic delays, making road travel increasingly unsafe.
Authorities have urged locals and travelers to avoid riverbanks, restrict unnecessary travel after dark, and strictly follow district advisories.
A sudden cloudburst in the Basukedar region of Rudraprayag triggered flash floods and debris flow in adjoining streams. Unfortunately, the disaster has resulted in loss of life, with several people still reported missing. Search and rescue operations led by the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) and district authorities are underway. However, continuous rainfall and high water levels are hampering efforts.
Connectivity to multiple interior villages has been completely cut off, leaving residents dependent on emergency relief supplies. Teams are working to restore access roads and communication lines, while evacuation units remain on alert in vulnerable zones.
In Uttarkashi district, a massive landslide at Naluna blocked the Gangotri National Highway, halting movement towards the Gangotri shrine and nearby trekking routes.
The route remained blocked for several hours, leaving pilgrims and trekkers stranded. BRO and PWD teams are on-site, but unstable slopes and recurring rain are slowing clearance work. Travelers headed towards Gangotri and Yamunotri are strongly advised to check real-time road updates before starting their journey.
The Rishikesh–Joshimath–Govindghat highway continues to face repeated blockages from landslides at Gauchar, Sirobgad, Nandaprayag, Bhanerpani (near Pipalkoti), Thirpak, and Parthadeep (near Nandnagar).
The Govindghat–Pulna road, which connects trekkers to the Valley of Flowers trailhead, remains unstable due to debris flow, with movement restricted and subject to sudden closures.
The Pulna–Ghangaria trail is extremely slippery and prone to rockfalls. Several bridges and walkways over the Pushpawati River have been affected, with safety inspections underway.
Trekkers are advised to carry rain protection, sturdy footwear, walking poles, and to proceed only under the guidance of certified trek leaders.
Thanks to advance planning, weather monitoring, and close coordination with local authorities, Trekup India successfully ensured that:
All trekkers on the Valley of Flowers trek were safely escorted back to Ghangaria and Govindghat before conditions deteriorated. As of August 29, 2025, no Trekup India trekkers are stranded.
Our ground support teams remain stationed at Govindghat and Joshimath to monitor conditions and assist if needed.
This proactive approach has enabled Trekup India to maintain the safety and security of all participants, even as other operators have faced disruptions.
With heavy rainfall expected until September 2, 2025, Trekup India advises trekkers and pilgrims to:
– Stay updated via official weather bulletins and Trekup India advisories.– Prepare for delays on the Rishikesh–Joshimath and Gangotri routes.– Avoid riverbanks, unstable slopes, and night travel, especially in flood-prone areas.
Trekkers are encouraged to reschedule Valley of Flowers and Hemkund Sahib treks to mid-September, when conditions are expected to stabilize.
Alternative treks recommended for mid-September:
– Har Ki Dun Trek – A cultural and scenic journey in the Valley of Gods.– Rupin Pass Trek – A challenging high-altitude adventure.– Bali Pass Trek – Demanding yet rewarding, with spectacular Himalayan views.
At Trekup India, safety is our top priority. We remain in close contact with ground teams, local authorities, and weather agencies, and will continue to share timely updates to support trekkers and ensure secure experiences in the Himalayas.

04 February 2026
Manali, August 29, 2025 – For the fourth consecutive day, the districts of Mandi, Kullu, and Lahaul–Spiti remain cut off from the rest of Himachal Pradesh as relentless rainfall continues to disrupt road connectivity.
The Kiratpur–Manali highway, a crucial lifeline for both locals and tourists, has suffered major damage due to multiple landslides and flash floods. While restoration teams are working round the clock, continuous rainfall and the risk of fresh landslides are delaying progress.
A major landslide near Nagar has been partially cleared, allowing one-way taxi movement only. Heavy vehicle movement is still restricted as restoration work continues.
The Manali–Leh highway, another vital tourism and strategic route, remains blocked at several points due to landslides and falling rocks. Clearance operations by the Border Roads Organisation (BRO) are ongoing but hampered by unstable terrain and weather conditions.
The road to Chandratal has been also been reported for damage. A major landslide at Koksar forced trekkers from several companies to walk nearly 30–40 km to reach Manali. The Atal Tunnel has also been temporarily closed for vehicle movement, leading some operators to attempt risky rescues via Rohtang Pass—an unsafe alternative under the current weather conditions.
Thanks to advance planning and continuous coordination with local authorities, all Trekup India trekkers on the Hampta Pass trail were safely descended back to Manali before the situation worsened. As of August 29, 2025, none of our trekkers are stranded—everyone is safe and accounted for.
Unfortunately, many trekkers from other operators have been stranded for the past three days at Chattru and near Koksar, with some being forced to trek long distances under risky conditions. Trekup India has extended assistance in rescuing several trekkers from other companies as well.
A high-altitude Trekup India team has departed from Manali today to Recce the Hampta Pass trekking route and inspect all campsites.
Provide medical support to any trekkers from other companies who may still be stuck along the trail. Our team is fully equipped with medical kits and emergency supplies to ensure immediate aid if required.
Given the current situation and the Yellow and Orange weather alerts issued for Himachal and Uttarakhand between August 29 – September 2, 2025, restoration work is expected to take time.
Once our ground team returns with updated trail conditions, we will provide accurate details about the Hampta Pass trek.
Until then, we request upcoming trekkers to remain patient and cooperate.
Depending on the situation, we advise shifting treks to mid-September or opting for alternative trails such as Har Ki Dun, Rupin Pass, or Bali Pass.
At Trekup India, safety comes first. We are closely monitoring the situation and will continue to share timely updates.

04 February 2026
The recent floods and heavy rainfall in Manali, Mandi, and Kullu have left behind heartbreaking scenes of damage and loss. Our thoughts and prayers are with the people and communities of Himachal who are facing this crisis with strength and resilience.
We are relieved to confirm that all Trekup India trekkers and staff are safe. Thanks to timely action by our ground team and strict adherence to our safety protocols, trekkers were advised to descend earlier than scheduled. Everyone reached home safely, and importantly, no Trekup India trekker was stranded either on the trek or en route to Manali.
The situation on the roads remains critical, the Chandigarh–Manali Highway has suffered multiple washouts after the Beas River overflowed, leaving thousands of vehicles stranded. As per state authorities, over 680 roads , including three national highways, are closed, cutting off access to Kullu, Manali, and Lahaul–Spiti.
Alternative routes through Mandi and Kullu are also blocked , leaving very limited options for safe travel at the moment.
The road from Manali to Jobra, the gateway to the Hampta Pass Trek, is currently restricted by authorities near the Aleo Hydropower project zone. While parts of the road have suffered damage, the bigger concern is safety. Movement has been strictly prohibited, and no individual is allowed to travel on this stretch until further notice.
The damage to Himachal’s power grid has been extensive, but restoration work has started and electricity is slowly being restored in phases:
Thousands of power transformers across Manali, Mandi, and Kullu were initially knocked out .
Water supply lines and pumping schemes in many villages were disrupted due to the lack of power.
Some areas have now begun to get electricity back, but many villages and towns continue to face round-the-clock blackouts.
Authorities estimate that full restoration will still take some more days.
This is Airtel’s Team Restoring it’s Network!!!
Communication remains a major challenge, though there is a slight improvement:
Mobile and internet services are still largely down across Manali, Mandi, and Kullu.
Airtel services have been partly restored, and while the network is unstable, it is functional at times.
Other networks remain mostly out of service, making reliable communication very difficult.
At Trekup India, we managed to stay connected with our ground staff through alternative channels and emergency contacts.
Despite the widespread damage in Himachal, we are pleased to report that all Trekup India Hampta Pass campsites are safe and undamaged. This was possible because of our careful advance planning and selection of safer campsite zones.
All Hampta Pass Trek batches scheduled until September 1, 2025, stand cancelled.
With major damage to roads, power, and communication, we strongly advise trekkers and travelers to avoid traveling to Manali until conditions stabilize.
Early estimates suggest it will take at least a week before roads and basic services start functioning again.
At Trekup India, safety always comes first. We will continue to monitor the ground situation closely and provide timely updates. While Himachal recovers and heals, our focus remains the safety of our trekkers, staff, and the local mountain communities we work with.
We are continuously monitoring the situation and will keep sharing updates here on our website and across our social media channels.
Stay safe, stay alert, and keep the people of Himachal in your thoughts.

Date: 25th August 2025
Dear Trekkers,
This is to update you on the current weather conditions and their impact on the Hampta Pass Trek operations. The region has been witnessing adverse and rapidly changing weather, which has forced us to take precautionary measures to ensure the safety of all trekkers.
The Hampta Pass region, including Manali and higher camps, has been experiencing moderate to heavy continuous rainfall for the past 24–36 hours.
As per the India Meteorological Department (IMD) forecast, the rainfall is expected to continue till 27th August 2025. On 28th August 2025, the forecast warns of very heavy rainfall, which may further impact road connectivity and trekking routes.
Due to continuous rainfall, the temperature has dropped sharply at higher campsites.
Fresh snowfall has been recorded at:
– Balu Ka Ghera
– Shea Goru
– Hampta Pass Top
The temperature in these areas has dipped to sub-zero levels, making the trail extremely slippery and risky for movement.
The Aleo Manali Hydropower Authority has confirmed very high-water levels in the river due to incessant rainfall. As a precautionary measure, the road from Manali to Jobra (the trek’s starting point) has been temporarily closed for all vehicle movement. The authorities have indicated a possible reopening by 26th August 2025, subject to weather improvement. However, this remains uncertain.
– As of 25th August 2025, the Chandigarh–Manali highway remains severely disrupted due to continuous heavy rainfall and multiple landslides, particularly near Pandoh in Mandi district. The alternative Kamand–Kataula route is also blocked, leaving no safe bypass options. Travel between Kullu and Mandi is restricted to single-lane movement, causing massive traffic jams and journeys stretching up to 12–15 hours. Authorities have also ordered school closures in Kullu, Manali, and Banjar for safety reasons. With the situation unstable and further heavy rain predicted, travel on the Chandigarh–Manali route is strongly discouraged until conditions improve.
25th August 2025 Batch: The trek has been cancelled for today. All trekkers reached Manali will be staying in Manali. Depending on tomorrow’s weather and road conditions, the batch may resume if conditions improve.
Upcoming Batches 27th – 29th August 2025 Batches: Considering the IMD forecast of heavy rainfall and snowfall and keeping safety as the highest priority, trekkers scheduled in these batches have opted to postpone their trek to later dates.
We fully support this decision, as the current scenario is highly unpredictable and unsafe.
Trekkers currently in Manali are advised to stay indoors, avoid unnecessary travel, and follow the guidance of trek leaders.
Those scheduled for upcoming dates should wait for further confirmation before starting their journey towards Manali. Please note that while mountain weather is always uncertain, this is an exceptionally unstable spell, and all decisions are being taken with your well-being in mind.
We are continuously to monitoring the situation closely and will provide daily updates.
Your patience and understanding during this time are highly appreciated.
Safety of our trekkers and team members remains our topmost priority.
STAY SAFE, STAY ALERT

04 February 2026
At Trekup India, we’ve always believed that adventure begins with responsibility. Over the past few weeks, many of you have reached out with questions, concerns, and hopeful curiosity about the status of treks in Jammu & Kashmir.
We hear you. And we’re committed to keeping you informed with clarity, honesty, and care.
As of today, we are announcing a temporary suspension of all trek operations in Kashmir for July 2025, following continued security reviews and administrative advisories from local authorities.
The following treks are currently on hold until further notice:
This decision follows a recent period of conflict near the border, after which the region has been gradually stabilizing. While daily life has resumed in most parts of the Kashmir Valley, official trekking permissions for alpine routes are still under review by the Jammu & Kashmir Tourism Department.
Until we receive full operational clearance for these routes, we will not be running treks in the region.
Trekking in Kashmir requires more than scenic beauty. It requires safe access to remote trails, medical readiness, local community participation, and reliable infrastructure. While the situation is improving, several critical elements remain under administrative supervision:
We believe that pressing ahead without certainty would compromise your experience and our commitment to safety.
We understand that many trekkers have been planning their Kashmir journeys for months. If you’re one of them, we want you to know that your booking is in responsible hands. Here’s what we’re offering:
Our team is already reaching out to each affected trekker individually to assist with rescheduling or alternate arrangements.
As of today, we are in daily contact with regional authorities, local support teams, and community leaders in Sonamarg, Aru, Ganderbal, and Anantnag.
There is optimism that treks may resume by mid to late August, if current stability holds. However, we will only announce fresh departures once all factors—safety, accessibility, infrastructure, and local coordination—are fully in place.
We promise to keep you updated with timely and accurate information through email, WhatsApp, and our website.
If you’re eager to get out into the mountains this season, there are many stunning trails fully open, safe, and just as rewarding as Kashmir.
You can join active departures on the following treks:
These treks offer breathtaking beauty, cultural depth, and reliable logistics. If you’re open to alternatives, our team will help you find the right match for your fitness level, interests, and schedule.
Kashmir is one of the most cherished regions we trek in. It’s a place of unmatched beauty and cultural warmth. But it also demands a high level of responsibility from us as operators, and from you as trekkers.
We did not make this decision lightly. But we made it with the firm belief that waiting is better than risking. We’d rather delay your dream by a month than compromise on the experience you deserve.
If you’ve booked, we’re here to support you.If you’ve been planning, we’ll help you pivot. And if you’ve been dreaming, keep dreaming. We’ll take you there soon.

04 February 2026
Dear Trekkers,
Greetings for the Day,
This is to inform you that the mountains have been experiencing rainfall in the lower regions of Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand. Meanwhile, there has been recent snowfall at higher altitudes.
Specifically for the Rupin Pass Trek, we have experienced approximately 1 foot of snowfall up to the Upper Waterfall campsite, and even heavier snowfall at the pass. This has made crossing the pass challenging for the recent batch that departed on 31st May 2025. As a result, the team has descended and will return via Jiskoon.
All trekkers are advised to be fully prepared with rain gear, backpack rain covers, and warm winter clothing. Due to the recent snowfall, temperatures have dropped to -4°C to -6°C in the higher regions.
As per the India Meteorological Department
-Until 6th June 2025: Rain in the lower regions and snowfall in the upper regions are expected to continue.
-7th to 9th June 2025: Hazy sunshine with spot showers.
-10th to 14th June 2025: Light rain expected daily.
Note: The trek is on and operational, and all preparations are moving forward as planned. However, crossing the pass will purely depend on real-time weather and trail conditions. Please understand that mountain weather is highly unpredictable and can change suddenly.
Rest assured, our expert ground team is committed to giving 100% effort to make your trek a safe and successful experience.
Warm regards,
Nanda Rawat

Dates: 17th May – 24th May 2025Total Participants: 11Route: Dehradun – Sankri – Dharkot – Seema – Rainbasera – Ruinsara Tal – Odari – Bali Col Camp – Bali Pass – Lower Dhamni – Janki Chatti – Dehradun
Trekup India proudly announces the successful completion of the first Bali Pass trek of the season, held from May 17th to 24th, 2025. A team of 11 determined trekkers set out on this high-altitude journey, overcoming rugged Himalayan terrain, snow-covered ridges, and long ascents to conquer the iconic Bali Pass at 4,950 meters.
This early-season expedition not only kicked off our 2025 trekking calendar but also set a powerful tone for the months ahead, combining careful preparation, expert guidance, and a deep respect for the natural environment.
Starting from Dehradun, the route took the group through scenic villages and alpine meadows—Sankri, Dharkot, Seema, and the serene Ruinsara Tal—before leading them into the more technical sections beyond Odari and toward the summit of Bali Pass.
The descent into the sacred Yamunotri Valley via Lower Dhamni and Janki Chatti was both challenging and breathtaking, offering panoramic views of towering peaks like Swargarohini, Kala Nag, and Bandarpoonch.
The batch consisted of 11 trekkers from diverse backgrounds, united by a shared goal and a spirit of collaboration. Every individual contributed to the group’s success through resilience, teamwork, and encouragement.
Participants expressed deep appreciation for:
Each day started with a warm-up session led by the trek leader and ended with guided stretches to promote recovery. These routines helped prepare both body and mind for the next day’s demands and were highly valued by all participants.
Trekup India maintains strict safety standards, especially in high-altitude conditions. Daily health checks, oxygen monitoring, route scouting, and emergency preparedness were part of our daily operations.
We carried:
We’re proud to report that all trekkers completed the expedition in excellent health.
Even at altitudes above 4,000 meters, our kitchen team delivered fresh, hot meals that kept energy levels high. Trekkers enjoyed regional dishes, warm soups, and wholesome breakfasts that boosted morale and physical stamina throughout the journey.
Among the most talked-about moments was the river crossing near Upper Waterfall and the steep ascent to Bali Pass, where the snowy ridge and narrow trail tested every trekker’s focus and fitness. These experiences offered a true taste of Himalayan adventure—authentic, raw, and deeply fulfilling.
The “Save the Trail” initiative was embraced by the entire team. From minimizing plastic usage to educating trekkers on eco-friendly practices, every member played a role in protecting the fragile Himalayan ecosystem. This commitment to sustainability is a core value of Trekup India and will remain central to all our treks.
The first Bali Pass trek of the season has set a high benchmark for future batches. With our experienced team, strong logistics, and unwavering commitment to safety and sustainability, we’re ready to guide many more trekkers through this incredible route.
To all 11 trekkers who took part in this expedition—thank you for your trust, enthusiasm, and determination. Your journey through one of the Himalayas’ most challenging passes is an inspiration to others and a reminder of what can be achieved with preparation, support, and heart.
We look forward to seeing you again on your next adventure.

Important Update for Trekkers: Temporary Trekking Restrictions
Dear Trekkers,
We regret to inform you that as of July 11, 2024, trekking on the Tarsar Marsar, Nafran Valley, and Bodpathri routes has been temporarily suspended. This decision has been taken by the District Administration of Pahalgam as a precautionary safety measure due to the ongoing unrest in parts of Jammu.

Option 1: Wait and continue monitoring the situation with us. We will keep you informed of any changes or updates.
Option 2: Shift to an alternative trek from the following recommended options:
Option 3: Defer your trek and join us for the same trail next year, in 2025.
This is an early-stage update to help you plan accordingly. We understand how important your trek is to you, and we will ensure clear and timely communication moving forward.
Thank you for your understanding and continued trust.

By Sonika
My name is Sonika, and I proudly call myself a trekker, not a tourist. I carry a deep desire to explore the world, especially its towering mountains and untouched trails. I find joy not just at the summit, but from the very first step of the journey.
I’m drawn to the charm of quiet mountain towns, the serenity of still lakes, the music of flowing rivers and tweeting birds, the grace of grazing animals, the vast blue skies, and the silence of snow-covered glaciers. The surrounding hills are not just scenery—they’re soul food. Every day in the wild, I live fully and gratefully.
While tourists chase the destination, for me, the trek itself is the destination. The beginning of a trail holds more magic than its end.
Luxury doesn’t attract me. I thrive in choosing my own path, strapping on my backpack, washing utensils in freezing water, pitching tents, and going days without showers or modern amenities. I find contentment in tents with no electricity, no Wi-Fi, no air conditioning—only the crisp mountain air and the sound of silence.
You’ll spot me entering the trail in my dry-fit layers, fleece jacket, down coat, ankle-length trekking boots, and a sturdy backpack. My style is minimal but purposeful—built for the trail, not the trend.
Trekking is not easy. It demands preparation, strength, and discipline. I don’t believe in last-minute plans or casual climbs—because in the mountains, one mistake can mean turning back. I carry not only the right gear but also the right mindset.
I use the mountain’s resources responsibly. Though I may go days without a shower, I ensure no waste is left behind. I proudly carry a Save the Trail Bag to collect litter and do my part in keeping the trails clean—for myself and for those who come after me.
Respect is a value I live by. I listen to my trek leaders, honor local customs, treat the support staff with kindness, and work as part of a team. I greet locals with warmth and carry the awareness that the mountains belong to everyone—but no one owns them.
I don’t pluck flowers, trample on meadows, harass animals, or disturb nature with loud music, fire, or recklessness. I strive to walk gently on the Earth.
Though I am a trekker, a wanderer, and a visitor in the mountains, I tread with care—and with pride I say:“I am a trekker, not a tourist.”
My only addiction is the mountains. I leave behind all others when I enter their realm. While others may seek a drink at the end of the day, I seek the silence of the hills and the thrill of the next ascent.Freedom, for me, is found in the ridgelines and the rising sun—not in intoxication, but in nature.

In Today’s Digital Age – Do Your Research Before Choosing a Trekking Agency
With everything easily accessible in today’s internet-driven world, it’s important to make informed decisions—especially when it comes to choosing a trekking agency. Before booking your next adventure, take a moment to research and verify the agency using the following key criteria:
These are essential checks to ensure you’re placing your trust in a legitimate and experienced trekking partner. Additionally, review their customer feedback, social media profiles, and official website to further evaluate their credibility.
Doing a little research can go a long way in ensuring your safety, satisfaction, and overall trekking experience.
Key Tips Before Booking Your Trek
Before committing to any trek, it’s important to take responsibility for your own awareness and make informed decisions. Here are a few essential steps every trekker should follow:
Being proactive and thorough before booking helps avoid unpleasant surprises and ensures you’re set for a safe and memorable adventure.
Plan Smart: Book Your Travel Connections Before the Trek
When preparing for a trek, it’s always advisable to book your travel connections—flights or trains—before finalizing your trek. This ensures a smoother and more cost-effective experience.
Securing your travel arrangements first not only helps you manage your budget but also gives you flexibility and peace of mind while planning your trekking adventure.
Understanding the Balance Between Cost and Quality
In our culture, it’s common to seek the “Cheap & Best”—and there’s nothing wrong with being value-conscious. However, it’s important to understand how this mindset can impact the overall experience.
Everyone wants the best value for their money—but balance is key. A fair price ensures you receive safe, well-managed, and enjoyable services without unnecessary cutbacks.
Get Trek-Ready: Preparing Your Body and Mind for High-Altitude Treks
Trekking in the Himalayas is as much a physical challenge as it is a mental one. Preparing in advance makes your experience not only more enjoyable but also much safer. Here’s how to get started:
1. Start Walking and Enjoy Physical ActivityThis may sound obvious, but you’d be surprised how many trekkers overlook it. Begin with long walks to build endurance, and supplement them with physical activities you enjoy—be it cycling, dancing, swimming, or gym workouts. The goal is to strengthen your leg muscles, boost cardiovascular health, and prepare your body for sustained movement.
Remember to give yourself a rest day after every 3–4 days of training to allow your body to recover and adapt. With time, your stamina will improve, and once you’re on the trek, your body will be well-prepared for the demands of high-altitude hiking.
[Click here to check: Fitness for Trekking on High Altitude Himalayan Treks]
2. Fuel Your Body RightYour body burns a significant amount of energy while trekking, especially in higher altitudes. That’s why a balanced and nutritious diet during your training period—and on the trek itself—is essential. Focus on complex carbs, lean proteins, and hydration to keep your body energized and ready.
[Click here to check: Food Provided on Trek]
3. Know Your Trek GradeEvery trek is different in terms of altitude, terrain, and difficulty. Most itineraries mention a trek grade (easy, moderate, difficult). Understanding this helps you set realistic expectations and plan your fitness regime accordingly.
[Click here to check: How to Get Fit for Himalayan High-Altitude Treks]
4. Quit Smoking and Alcohol—Starting TodayIf you’re a regular smoker or drinker, it’s crucial to stop well in advance of your trek. These habits dehydrate the body and significantly reduce oxygen absorption, which is critical in high-altitude environments. Instead, develop a habit of drinking plenty of water daily to keep your body well-hydrated and trek-ready.
Preparing for a trek is about building consistency, strength, and discipline. The better prepared you are, the more you’ll enjoy every step of the journey.
What to Pack for a Trek – Travel Light, Travel Smart
What you pack for a trek largely depends on the duration of your journey and your comfort level with minimalism. Whether it’s a short escape or a multi-day high-altitude expedition, the key is to pack smart, not heavy.
From our experience, everything you need should ideally fit into a single, well-organized backpack. Carrying light makes your trek more comfortable, manageable, and enjoyable.
To make your preparation easier, we’ve created a detailed Essential Packing Checklist tailored for trekkers of all levels.
[Click here to view: Things To Carry For A Trek]
Being prepared is the first step to a successful trek. Pack wisely, and let the adventure begin!
Important Documents – Keep Them Organized and Handy
Before heading out for your trek, it’s essential to prepare a separate folder for all necessary documents. Keeping these organized not only ensures a smooth check-in process but also avoids last-minute hassles.
Here’s what you should include:
Keep this folder in an easily accessible section of your backpack. Being well-prepared with the right documentation is just as important as physical readiness for your trek.
Personal First Aid – Don’t Rely Solely on Group Supplies
A common misconception among trekkers is that the group’s first aid kit will cover all needs. While most trekking companies do carry a standard first aid kit, it is limited and meant for basic, shared use. That’s why it’s strongly recommended that each trekker carry their own personal first aid kit.
Here’s why it matters:
Always consult your doctor before carrying or taking any medication, especially for high-altitude conditions.
You can refer to our basic first aid and medication checklist here:[Click here: Things To Carry For A Trek]

Trekking is more than just walking in the mountains—it’s about embracing nature, being responsible, and becoming part of an environment far different from our daily lives. Here are some essential principles every trekker should follow to ensure a safe, respectful, and enriching experience:
1. Be a Great ListenerAlways follow the instructions of your trek leader and support team diligently. They are trained professionals with experience in mountain safety and group dynamics.
2. Respect NatureLive by the saying: “Take nothing but memories, leave nothing but footprints.”Avoid littering, damaging flora, or disturbing wildlife. Let nature’s tranquility remain untouched.
3. Be a Responsible TrekkerAvoid unnecessary risks and adventurous stunts that could endanger you or others. Stay with the group, respect the plan, and never challenge safety protocols.
4. Expect the UnexpectedPrepare your mind for surprises—weather changes, altered plans, or delays. This is the essence of adventure. A calm, adaptable mindset is your biggest asset.
5. Push Your Limits – GentlyWake early for sunrises, marvel at starry skies, listen to the quiet of the wilderness—these experiences are worth the effort. Trekking isn’t just physical—it’s spiritual.
6. Step Out of Your Comfort ZoneLeave behind luxury and city comforts. Embrace the rawness of the wild and enjoy the simplicity and authenticity of mountain life.
7. Learn the BasicsOur team at Trekup India often demonstrates essential trekking skills like pitching tents, crossing streams, and navigating slopes. Be open to learning—these skills enrich your adventure.
8. Stay Hydrated & EnergizedHigh altitudes can dehydrate you even if you don’t feel it. Keep sipping water and munch on dry fruits, chocolates, or energy bars to maintain energy levels throughout the trek.
9. Take Timely BreaksAvoid walking continuously without rest. Scheduled breaks help prevent exhaustion and keep your pace steady for the entire day.
10. Have Travel/Health InsuranceIt’s wise to invest in a personal travel or health insurance policy, especially for high-altitude treks. It adds a layer of security in unforeseen situations.
11. Know Your Map & CompassA good trekker has a basic understanding of reading maps and using a compass. Stay aware of your route and terrain, even when you’re with a guided group.
Trekking is about more than reaching a summit—it’s about how you journey, whom you journey with, and how you connect with the wilderness. Walk responsibly, walk respectfully, and most importantly, walk with awareness.
While trekking is an incredible adventure, it also demands responsibility, awareness, and respect—for nature, the team, and yourself. Here are some key things to avoid during a trek to ensure a safe and enjoyable experience for all:
1. Carrying Too Much WeightAlways pack light and smart. Avoid bringing unnecessary items—trekking becomes easier, safer, and more enjoyable when you’re not burdened by excess weight.
2. Choosing the Wrong BackpackFirst-time trekkers often pick backpacks based on style, not functionality. Do your research and choose one that suits the duration and intensity of your trek, with good back support and weight distribution.
3. Wearing Inappropriate ClothingAvoid trekking in jeans or heavy cotton. They retain moisture and restrict movement, making them extremely uncomfortable. Opt for lightweight, breathable, and quick-dry trek wear instead.
4. Straying from the TrailStick to marked trails and stay with the group. Avoid shortcuts or unmarked paths. If you’re confused or lost, retrace your steps to the last known path and wait for assistance.
5. Playing Loud MusicLoud music disrupts the natural soundscape and may disturb wildlife. Respect nature’s silence—take a break from screens and electronics to truly connect with your surroundings.
6. Wearing HeadphonesEven if you avoid loudspeakers, headphones can isolate you from your environment. You need to stay alert to instructions, wildlife, and changing trail conditions.
7. Smoking or DrinkingAlcohol and smoking dehydrate the body and reduce your capacity to adjust to altitude and physical exertion. These are serious risks in a trekking environment—avoid them completely.
8. LitteringCarry all your waste back with you. Preserve the trails by following the golden rule:“Leave only footprints, take only memories.”
9. Ignoring Health SignalsYour body speaks—don’t ignore it. Report any discomfort, pain, dizziness, or breathlessness to your trek leader immediately. Early action can prevent serious health issues.
10. Trekking After DarkNever hike at night. It increases the risk of injury, getting lost, or encountering wild animals. Always aim to reach your destination before sunset.
11. Clicking Photos Without PermissionAlways ask before photographing locals or restricted areas. Also, never take photos while walking—stop in a safe spot, be mindful of your surroundings, then click.
Trekking is a shared responsibility. Your safety, the group’s harmony, and nature’s peace all depend on your choices. Be respectful, stay aware, and let the mountains offer you their best—because you gave them your best in return.
Trekking is more than just a physical activity—it’s a mindful journey into nature, offering peace, discovery, and personal growth. With trekking gaining immense popularity, more individuals are stepping into the wilderness in search of tranquility, connection, and adventure.
While it’s considered a soft-adventure sport involving walking, exploring, and adapting to new environments, being a responsible and successful trekker requires a few key qualities. Here’s what you should nurture within yourself:

As the term suggests, sustainability refers to using natural resources in a way that does not harm the environment, ensuring that these resources are preserved for future generations. By practicing sustainability, we can help retain valuable resources for an extended period and prevent the depletion of the Earth’s finite supplies.
We, as consumers, directly rely on these resources for our daily needs. However, the alarming truth is that these resources are depleting at a rapid pace, with little regard for the long-term consequences.
The Himalayas, one of the most majestic mountain ranges in the world, provide us with an abundance of natural resources. Apart from being a global wonder of biodiversity, the region is also a hotspot for the trekking community, attracting adventurers and nature lovers from across the globe.
The Himalayas can be divided into three main sections:
Trekking is primarily done in the Lesser Himalayas and Trans Himalayas, particularly in the Leh Region, due to their diverse trails and captivating landscapes.
While the Himalayas continue to charm trekkers from all corners of the world, the growing influx of tourists has begun to take a toll on the environment. Overexploitation of natural resources, improper waste disposal, and unchecked development are causing irreparable damage to the region’s fragile ecosystem. The growing concern over the environmental impact of trekking in the Himalayas calls for a more sustainable approach to ensure the long-term preservation of these valuable natural resources.
This is why we at Trekup India have introduced the idea of sustainable trekking. By adopting eco-friendly and responsible practices, we can ensure that the natural beauty and resources of the Himalayas are preserved for future generations to enjoy. We believe that sustainable trekking not only enhances the experience but also contributes to the well-being of the environment and local communities.
Through our efforts, we aim to raise awareness about sustainable trekking practices, such as waste management, eco-friendly gear, and respecting local cultures and wildlife. We encourage trekkers to be mindful of their impact on the environment and actively participate in preserving the Himalayas for years to come.
Always maintain the decorum of nature while trekking. Excessive noise can disturb the local wildlife, causing unnecessary stress to animals and disrupting their natural habitat. Trekking quietly not only enhances your own experience but also helps preserve the peaceful environment for the creatures that call it home.
Burning wood in the jungle can have severe environmental consequences. It contributes to pollution, destroys local flora, and encourages deforestation. To protect the ecosystem, it’s crucial to avoid such practices. Instead, opt for eco-friendly stoves or use pre-existing fire pits where allowed, and always ensure that your actions do not harm the surroundings.
Additionally, always stay on designated trekking trails. Moving off-route can cause soil erosion, disturb plant life, and increase the risk of getting lost. By respecting the established routes, you help protect the fragile ecosystem while also ensuring your own safety. Following these simple yet impactful guidelines ensures that we preserve the beauty of nature for future generations of trekkers.
That’s an impressive and commendable effort by the Trekup India team! Collecting 462 kgs of plastic waste from the Kedarkantha Trek during the 2021 season is a significant achievement in preserving the beauty and health of the environment. It highlights the importance of taking responsibility for the waste we generate and the role each individual can play in making a positive impact.
At Trekup India, it’s clear that the focus is not only on providing unforgettable trekking experiences but also on ensuring that these experiences contribute to the well-being of nature. Removing plastic waste from trekking trails not only keeps the trails beautiful but also protects wildlife and ecosystems that are often affected by pollution.
This kind of initiative can inspire others to take action and raise awareness about the importance of sustainability and waste management in trekking and outdoor activities. It’s a great reminder that every trekker’s actions can make a real difference. Keep up the great work!
Always carry a Kiwi bag for disposing of items like toffee wrappers and other small trash. Never throw these wrappers on the trail, as plastic is a major environmental threat. It takes centuries to decompose, leaving a lasting impact on nature and wildlife. By ensuring that all waste is properly collected, you can play a role in protecting the environment.
At Trekup India, we are deeply committed to sustainability and environmental consciousness. As part of our efforts to keep nature clean, we provide SAVE THE TRAIL BAGS to all our trekkers. These bags allow you to carry your waste with you and dispose of it properly at designated areas at our Trekup India campsites. By doing this, we can ensure that the trails remain pristine, free from litter, and that our trekkers contribute positively to preserving the beauty of the mountains.
A responsible trekker is not just someone who enjoys the adventure of the trails but also someone who is deeply committed to preserving the environment and promoting sustainability. Being an eco-conscious trekker means:
By being a responsible trekker, you’re not just taking part in a personal adventure—you’re helping to preserve the very landscapes and ecosystems that make trekking so special. It’s about creating a sustainable future for trekking and ensuring that the beauty of nature can be enjoyed by future generations.
Rivers in mountainous regions are vital sources of water for both local communities and trekkers. They play an essential role in the ecosystem, supporting both flora and fauna. Polluting these rivers not only jeopardizes the environment but also harms wildlife and disrupts the delicate balance of nature.
As responsible trekkers, it’s crucial to:
By being mindful of our actions, we ensure that these natural resources remain clean and abundant for future generations, preserving the beauty of the mountains and their ecosystems.
Trekking in the Himalayas offers a unique opportunity to experience the region’s rich culture and traditions. Trekkers can enjoy local foods like dal bhat, momo, and thukpa, which are designed for energy and warmth in harsh conditions. The trek also gives insight into how mountain communities survive through traditional techniques, farming, and spirituality despite extreme environments. You’ll learn about local customs, witness sacred ceremonies, and discover sustainable living practices. Trekking in the Himalayas not only challenges the body but also connects you deeply with the people and the land, offering a lasting cultural experience.

No one experiences outdoor adventure in exactly the same way—but whether it’s hiking, trekking, climbing, or camping, there’s something deeply personal and transformative about stepping into the wild. For those who have ventured into nature, the thrill is undeniable—and often addictive. Once you get a taste of it, you’ll want to go back for more.
If you’re an adventure seeker or simply love stories of survival and self-discovery, these films are for you. Some are based on true events, others purely fictional, but all are packed with gripping plots and breathtaking scenery that will transport you straight into the heart of the wilderness.
Outdoor experiences affect people in different ways. For some, they offer a chance to reclaim their lives. For others, they mark a turning point—a new direction, a quest for forgiveness, or the pursuit of an unforgettable thrill. Whatever the reason, these adventure and backpacking films capture the spirit of what it means to disconnect from the world and reconnect with yourself.
Here’s a curated list of both classic and upcoming adventure films that are sure to inspire your next mountain escape.
Everest, directed by Baltasar Kormákur, is a gripping adventure drama that recreates the tragic 1996 Mount Everest disaster, one of the deadliest events in the history of high-altitude mountaineering. The film follows two joint expedition groups led by seasoned climbers Rob Hall and Scott Fischer as they attempt to conquer the highest point on Earth, only to be faced with a life-threatening storm.
As the climbers approach the summit, they are unexpectedly hit by a violent and relentless snowstorm, which transforms their expedition from an exhilarating adventure into a desperate fight for survival. The storm unleashes extreme winds, freezing temperatures, and blinding conditions, pushing the climbers to their physical and emotional limits. Stranded in one of the most hostile environments on the planet, they must overcome nearly impossible odds to stay alive.
The film portrays the harrowing struggle of these mountaineers as they battle against time and nature. The climbers’ resilience, determination, and will to survive shine through as they face near-death experiences and make life-or-death decisions in the freezing, oxygen-thin air of Everest’s summit.
Everest is not only a tribute to the strength of the human spirit but also a sobering reminder of the extreme risks involved in high-altitude expeditions. With stunning visuals and intense performances, the film captures the brutal beauty and deadly dangers of one of the most challenging peaks in the world.
The Summit, directed by Nick Ryan, is a harrowing documentary that chronicles the tragic events of the 2008 K2 disaster, one of the deadliest days in mountaineering history. The film offers an in-depth look at the ill-fated summit attempt, which saw 22 international climbers converge on K2, the world’s second-highest peak.
As the climbers neared the summit in August 2008, tragedy struck. 11 climbers disappeared without a trace, their fate remaining a mystery. The documentary features actual footage from various climbers, including that captured by Swedish mountaineer Fredrik Strang, who was part of the expedition but did not make it to the summit. Although Strang’s footage provides key insights into the events leading up to the disaster, the documentary could not fully capture the events from the summit itself.
The Summit attempts to piece together the chaos that unfolded on that fateful day, relying on the differing accounts of those who survived. Through their conflicting stories, the film delves into the complex decisions, environmental challenges, and human errors that led to the loss of so many lives.
The documentary is not only a tribute to the climbers who perished but also a compelling investigation into the risks and realities of high-altitude mountaineering. With its blend of raw footage and survivor testimonies, The Summit offers a sobering reflection on the fine line between triumph and tragedy on the world’s most unforgiving peaks.
127 Hours, directed by Danny Boyle, is a gripping survival drama based on the real-life story of Aron Ralston, a mountain climber whose extraordinary fight for survival in the Utah canyons captured worldwide attention. The film stars James Franco as Aron, who becomes trapped under a massive boulder while canyoneering alone.
While climbing, Aron slips and falls, leaving his arm pinned beneath the boulder. With no one knowing his whereabouts, and no way to call for help, he is left with only his resourcefulness and determination to survive. Over the next 127 hours, Aron faces unimaginable physical and psychological challenges. Throughout his ordeal, he keeps a video diary, documenting his thoughts, struggles, and hopes for rescue. Some of these real-life footage clips were kept in a bank vault for safekeeping, and both Franco and director Boyle were given access to the footage to accurately portray Aron’s experience in the film.
As days pass without anyone coming to his aid, Aron is forced to take drastic measures to escape his predicament. Faced with the prospect of death, he must make an agonizing decision that will test the limits of his strength and willpower.
127 Hours is not just a story of survival against the odds; it is a profound exploration of human endurance, the power of hope, and the resilience of the spirit in the face of unimaginable adversity. The film is both heart-stopping and emotionally moving, shedding light on Aron’s remarkable journey from the depths of despair to the triumph of survival.
Uunchai, directed by Sooraj R. Barjatya, is a deeply moving film about friendship, dreams, and the pursuit of an impossible goal. The story follows Amit, Om, and Javed, three elderly friends who embark on an extraordinary journey to Mount Everest in order to fulfill the final wish of their late friend Bhupen.
For decades, Bhupen had dreamed of climbing the world’s highest peak, and though his friends were initially reluctant—mostly due to their age and physical limitations—it is only after his sudden death from a cardiac arrest that his wish takes on a new urgency. Amit, who had always taken Bhupen’s dream seriously, learns that Bhupen had already bought tickets for all of them to climb Everest together.
Determined to honor Bhupen’s memory, Amit convinces Om and Javed to join him in a journey not only to the top of the world but toward a personal and spiritual awakening. Along the way, Mala, Bhupen’s long-lost love, unexpectedly joins them, carrying her own regrets and unresolved emotions. She feels the weight of not having fought for Bhupen when he was alive.
As the four friends embark on their emotional and physical journey, they are forced to confront their own limitations and fears. But through their shared experience, they rediscover the freedom of pursuing their dreams, no matter their age or the obstacles in their way.
Uunchai is a film that celebrates the enduring power of friendship, the resilience of the human spirit, and the transformative effect of following a dream. It’s a beautiful reminder that no matter how old you are, it’s never too late to chase the heights of your aspirations.
Poorna, directed by Rahul Bose, is a remarkable biographical film that tells the true story of Malavath Poorna, the youngest girl to ever climb Mount Everest. At just 13 years old, Poorna, a tribal girl from a small village in Telangana, India, defied all odds to achieve what most would consider an impossible dream.
Raised in a family of farm workers, Poorna faced immense hardships and social barriers. Despite the difficult circumstances and the skepticism she faced from many around her, Poorna’s heart was set on conquering the world’s highest peak. Her journey to Everest was not just a physical challenge but an emotional and psychological battle against societal expectations, gender biases, and her own doubts.
The turning point in her life came when IPS officer Pradeep—a man committed to improving the lives of underprivileged children—learned about Poorna’s extraordinary ambition. Moved by her determination, Pradeep took her under his wing and began training her for the climb. With his support and guidance, Poorna overcame her limitations, learned the skills required for mountaineering, and eventually became the youngest girl to reach the summit of Mount Everest.
Poorna is an inspiring story of resilience, courage, and the unrelenting pursuit of a dream. It is a testament to the power of mentorship, perseverance, and the belief that no dream is too big to achieve, no matter how young or underprivileged you are.
Meru, directed by Jimmy Chin and Elizabeth Chai Vasarhelyi, is a gripping documentary that chronicles the incredible journey of climbers Jimmy Chin and Conrad Anker as they attempt the first ascent of Mount Meru via the notoriously difficult Shark Fin route in the Indian Himalayas.
Known for his historic discovery of George Mallory’s body on Mount Everest in 1999, Conrad Anker returns to the world of extreme climbing, this time with his longtime friend Jimmy Chin. Together, they embark on an ascent of Meru’s Shark Fin—a vertical wall so steep and sheer that it’s considered one of the most challenging climbing routes on Earth. The route is aptly named for its razor-sharp ridges, and the climb itself becomes a battle not only against nature but also against their own personal struggles and doubts.
Meru is not just a documentary about a climb; it’s about perseverance, friendship, and the raw determination to conquer both the mountain and the inner demons each climber faces. The film includes stunning footage, some captured by the climbers themselves during the expedition, while other scenes are filmed by the documentary team. Together, they bring audiences into the heart of one of the most physically demanding and mentally taxing climbs in mountaineering history.
The film beautifully illustrates the climbers’ resolve to overcome adversities—ranging from harsh weather conditions and technical difficulties to personal tragedies—and ultimately reach the summit of Mount Meru, cementing the expedition’s place in the annals of climbing lore.
Meru won the Audience Award: U.S. Documentary at the Sundance Film Festival in 2015, further validating the powerful human story at its core. It’s a must-watch for anyone fascinated by the intersection of human endurance, nature’s challenges, and the spirit of adventure.
Vertical Limit, directed by Martin Campbell, is a high-octane survival thriller that takes viewers on a heart-stopping journey to the world’s second-highest peak—K2 in the Himalayas. The story begins when wealthy businessman Elliot Vaughn hires the expert climber Annie to lead an expedition to the summit of K2, one of the most treacherous mountains on Earth.
However, things take a dramatic turn when an avalanche strikes, trapping Annie and two other climbers in a cave high up on the mountain. As the storm rages and oxygen supplies dwindle, Annie and her companions’ chances of survival grow slimmer by the minute.
When Annie’s brother, Peter Garrett, learns of the disaster, he quickly assembles a team of skilled mountaineers to attempt a daring rescue. Racing against time, Peter and his team must navigate K2’s perilous terrain, fighting both the harsh elements and the looming threat of running out of oxygen. But the stakes are even higher as they are also tasked with carrying nitrogen bombs, adding an explosive layer of tension to their already life-threatening mission.
Vertical Limit is a pulse-pounding adventure that blends survival, family bonds, and high-altitude heroics, with each climber pushed to their physical and emotional limits in the race to save lives before it’s too late.
Infinite Storm, directed by Malgorzata Szumowska and Michal Englert, is a gripping American adventure drama inspired by true events. It follows the incredible story of Pam Bales, an experienced climber and search-and-rescue volunteer, whose routine solo hike turns into a life-or-death mission.
While trekking the Jewel Trail on Mount Washington, Pam—accustomed to the wild and drawn to the solitude of nature—senses an incoming storm and begins her descent. But along the way, she encounters a lone, semi-conscious man stranded in the harsh weather. With no one else around and night approaching, she takes it upon herself to save him.
Naming him “John” since he refuses to speak, Pam fights both the worsening blizzard and John’s lack of will to survive. Despite his resistance and her own emotional and physical exhaustion, she pushes them both to safety, driven by compassion, resilience, and an unshakable belief in the value of human life—even when someone has lost hope in their own.
After surviving the ordeal, “John” vanishes without explanation, but sometime later, the two cross paths again. In a poignant exchange, the emotional weight of the rescue becomes clear, revealing how even fleeting connections in extreme moments can leave lasting impacts on both lives.
Infinite Storm is a powerful exploration of survival, human connection, and the quiet heroism of one woman who refused to leave a stranger behind.
Wild, directed by Jean-Marc Vallée, is a deeply moving adventure drama based on the memoir by Cheryl Strayed. At its heart, it’s a story of loss, healing, and the raw power of nature to transform the human spirit.
After the devastating loss of her beloved mother and the collapse of her marriage, Cheryl spirals into a period of grief, self-destruction, and reckless decisions. In a desperate bid to reclaim her life, she makes an impulsive yet courageous choice—to hike over 1,000 miles of the Pacific Crest Trail, alone and with no prior hiking experience.
What begins as a physically grueling trek soon becomes something much deeper: a journey of self-discovery, forgiveness, and redemption. Battling harsh terrain, wild animals, injury, and her own inner demons, Cheryl slowly begins to shed the pain of her past and rediscover her sense of self.
With stunning cinematography and a raw, heartfelt performance by Reese Witherspoon, Wild is a powerful testament to the strength it takes to walk away from what breaks you—and the courage it takes to walk toward what heals you.
The Way Back, directed by Peter Weir, is a gripping American survival drama inspired by true events. Set during the brutal Stalin-era regime in the Soviet Union, the film follows the harrowing journey of six prisoners who escape from a Siberian Gulag and embark on an almost unthinkable 4,000-mile trek to freedom.
Among the escapees are Janusz, a young Polish man; the tough and guarded Mr. Smith; and the unpredictable Valka. As they flee the icy confines of Siberia, they face one of the most punishing survival odysseys ever depicted on screen—trekking across the frozen Siberian Arctic, through the scorched expanse of the Gobi Desert, and over the towering Himalayas, all while battling starvation, exhaustion, and the elements.
Along their journey, the group is joined by Irena, a teenage Polish girl who initially lies about her background to stay with them. As the environment becomes increasingly hostile, the journey takes its toll. Irena suffers from severe sunstroke during a sandstorm and ultimately succumbs, accepting her fate in one of the film’s most heartbreaking moments. Others are lost along the way, too—each death a stark reminder of the cost of freedom.
As hope fades and their strength wanes, Mr. Smith nearly gives up, but the determination of the group carries him forward. Against all odds, the surviving members eventually find aid through the kindness of strangers and the support of the Indian government, marking the end of an epic struggle for survival.
The Way Back is not just a tale of escape—it’s a profound story of endurance, human willpower, and the relentless pursuit of liberty in the face of impossible odds.
Wampler’s Ascent, directed by Elizabeth Wampler, is a deeply inspiring documentary that tells the extraordinary story of Steve Wampler, a man with a severe form of cerebral palsy who set out to do what many believed was impossible—climb El Capitan, the iconic 3,000-foot granite monolith in Yosemite National Park.
Using only one functioning limb—his right arm—and completing roughly 20,000 pull-ups over the course of 6 grueling days and 6 nights, Steve battled fatigue, fear, and the sheer physical toll of the climb. At night, he slept suspended on the side of the rock face, enduring both mental and physical extremes to complete his mission.
Steve is not only an athlete but also a husband and father, and throughout the film, his journey becomes a testament to perseverance, courage, and human potential. Despite relying on an electric wheelchair in daily life, he proves that determination and grit can move mountains—or, in his case, scale them.
Wampler’s Ascent is more than a climbing film; it’s a story of empowerment, resilience, and redefining what’s possible. It’s a powerful reminder that limitations exist only where we place them—and that with purpose and passion, the human spirit knows no bounds.
Into Thin Air: Death on Everest, directed by Robert Markowitz, is a harrowing television film that recreates one of the deadliest days in the history of Mount Everest. Based on journalist and mountaineer Jon Krakauer’s bestselling memoir, the film offers a firsthand account of the infamous 1996 Everest disaster that unfolded on May 10.
The story follows Krakauer as he joins a commercial expedition led by experienced guide Rob Hall. What begins as a thrilling adventure quickly turns into a nightmare when an unexpected storm engulfs the mountain. Within just 24 hours, three separate climbing teams are caught in hurricane-force winds, plummeting temperatures, and the brutal effects of extreme altitude.
Amid the chaos, climbers become disoriented, exhausted, and trapped above the death zone. Key figures like Scott Fischer, another renowned guide, are also caught in the storm. Fischer, already weakened and assisting a sick client, struggles to make it back down from Camp 2 but ultimately succumbs to the conditions.
As night falls on Everest, climbers are left scattered across the mountain, battling for survival. The storm results in one of the worst single-season death tolls ever recorded on the peak, shaking the mountaineering world to its core.
Into Thin Air: Death on Everest is not just a disaster film—it’s a sobering reflection on the limits of human endurance, the unpredictable nature of Everest, and the high cost of ambition when nature refuses to be tamed.
The Wildest Dream, directed by Anthony Geffen, is a breathtaking documentary that intertwines the stories of two legendary climbers—George Mallory, the pioneering British mountaineer who may have been the first to summit Everest, and Conrad Anker, the man who discovered Mallory’s body 75 years later.
The film explores Mallory’s passion for mountaineering, a devotion so powerful it rivaled even his love for his wife, Ruth. Driven by the irresistible allure of Everest, Mallory set out in 1924 to achieve what no man had done before: reach the highest point on Earth. Climbing in rudimentary gear—gabardine clothing and hobnailed boots—he braved the harsh, unforgiving conditions in what was then the most daring adventure imaginable.
He was last seen just 800 feet from the summit before vanishing into a wall of cloud, never to return. His disappearance sparked one of the greatest mysteries in the history of exploration: did George Mallory reach the top of Everest before dying?
In 1999, modern mountaineer Conrad Anker stumbled upon Mallory’s remarkably preserved body on the mountain’s North Face. Among his belongings, one item was notably missing—the photograph of Ruth that Mallory had promised to leave at the summit. That small absence raises a haunting and poignant question: Did he make it?
Blending archival footage, reenactments, and interviews, The Wildest Dream is more than a historical investigation—it’s a moving meditation on ambition, love, legacy, and the eternal pull of the mountains.
Sherpa is a powerful and deeply human documentary directed by Australian filmmaker Jennifer Peedom. Originally intended as an exploration of Sherpa culture and their sacred relationship with the Himalayas, the film took an unexpected and tragic turn when the deadliest avalanche in Everest’s history struck during filming in 2014, killing 16 Sherpas.
At the heart of the story is Phurba Tashi, a veteran Sherpa who had summited Mount Everest 21 times. Through his journey, the film sheds light on the extraordinary physical and spiritual demands placed on Sherpas—those who risk their lives time and again to help others achieve their mountaineering dreams. Tashi’s family, especially his wife, pleads with him to stop climbing, fearing for his safety as he prepares for yet another expedition.
The avalanche becomes a turning point, not only in the documentary but in Everest’s climbing history. It sparks outrage and grief within the Sherpa community, revealing deep-seated tensions over working conditions, respect, and safety. Some Sherpas call for a boycott out of mourning and protest; others feel pressured to continue climbing out of financial necessity or fear of retaliation. This conflict ultimately leads to the cancellation of the 2014 climbing season.
Sherpa also incorporates rare archival footage of legendary climbers Tenzing Norgay and Sir Edmund Hillary, along with interviews from Norgay’s children, connecting past and present generations of Himalayan climbers.
The film is a sobering look at the often-overlooked backbone of Everest expeditions—the Sherpas. It’s a moving tribute to their resilience, spiritual connection to the mountains, and the complex choices they face between livelihood and life itself.
High and Hallowed: Everest 1963 is a powerful documentary directed by David Morton, Jake Norton, and Jim Aikman, chronicling one of the most iconic and daring climbs in American mountaineering history. The film revisits the legendary 1963 American Mount Everest Expedition—a bold and visionary attempt to summit the world’s highest peak via the uncharted and perilous West Ridge.
Led by Jim Whittaker, the first American to reach Everest’s summit, the expedition also included mountaineering pioneers Tom Hornbein and Willi Unsoeld, who defied the odds by taking the far more dangerous and less-traveled West Ridge route—a feat that remains one of the most celebrated accomplishments in high-altitude climbing.
Fifty years later, a team of climbers retraces this historic journey, not only to honor the legacy of the original expedition but also to confront the same extreme risks, harsh conditions, and psychological challenges their predecessors faced.
High and Hallowed is more than just a documentary about a mountain; it’s a tribute to the relentless human spirit, the evolution of mountaineering, and the legacy of those who dared to dream beyond the summit.
Touching the Void, a gripping documentary directed by Kevin Macdonald, tells the harrowing true story of climbers Joe Simpson and Simon Yates during their ascent of the West Face of Siula Grande in the Cordillera Huayhuash, deep in the Peruvian Andes. Their goal was ambitious: to conquer a previously unclimbed route on the mountain. But what began as a bold and confident expedition quickly turned into a near-fatal descent.
After successfully summiting, disaster struck on the way down—Joe suffers a catastrophic fall, shattering his leg in the process. Stranded high in the mountains with no easy way down and worsening weather, Simon is faced with an impossible decision. With Joe dangling helplessly over a cliff and unable to climb back up, Simon ultimately cuts the rope to save himself, believing Joe has fallen to his death.
Amazingly, Joe survives the fall. In one of the most extraordinary feats of endurance ever documented, he crawls for days across glaciers and ravines—alone, injured, and without food or water—eventually making it back to base camp just before Simon’s departure.
Touching the Void is a breathtaking tale of survival, resilience, and the raw will to live, made even more powerful by Simpson and Yates themselves, who reconstruct the events with haunting honesty. It’s a must-watch for anyone who craves true stories of adventure and the indomitable human spirit.
